About me
Who am I?
My name is Mike Vollmer. I'm a programmer and a student. Currently I am studying computer science (with a minor in English literature) at California State University in Sacramento, and I work for the University doing web development. When I'm not at work I'm working on some projects of my own or writing in my blog. I'm a pretty typical geek — I like sci-fi, computers, and video games.
My experience
I do web design and web development, primarily. This includes designing graphics, writing (X)HTML and CSS for a website layout, and coding in Javascript, Flex/Actionscript 3, PHP, Java, Ruby, or Python. I'm familiar with cutting-edge web frameworks, like Ruby on Rails and Django, and I'm also accustomed to working with web software like Apache and nginx and source control software like Git.
What do I do?
I can work with your company to develop a web presence from scratch, or I can work from whatever you have already. Not everyone knows exactly what they want when they're starting their first website, and I can help you outline what it is you want to accomplish with your web presence and how best to realize your goals.
Science is what we understand well enough to explain to a computer.
Art is everything else we do.
